New Patients

Welcome. Here's What to Expect.

We make first visits easy. Here's everything you need to know before you walk in the door.

What to Bring

A Short Checklist for Your First Visit

  • Insurance card (vision and/or medical)
  • Photo ID
  • Your current glasses and contacts, and the most recent prescription if you have it
  • List of medications (some medications can affect the eyes)
  • List of questions. We love it when patients come prepared
  • For minors: a parent or legal guardian must accompany the patient

For a more detailed breakdown, see our guide on what to bring to your eye exam. Bringing a child? Read what to expect at your child's first eye exam, or, for the youngest patients, what a baby's first eye exam looks like.

Transferring records? Have your previous eye doctor send your records to records@pedsfamilyvision.com before your visit, or bring a printed copy with you.

What to Expect

Your First Visit, Step by Step

1

Book Online

Use our online scheduler to find a time that works for your family. You'll receive an email confirmation immediately and reminders before your visit.

2

We Verify Your Insurance

Before your appointment, we verify your vision and medical insurance benefits so we can explain exactly what is and is not covered. No surprise bills.

3

Plan to Arrive 10–15 Minutes Early

For your first visit, arriving a few minutes early gives us time to gather your information so we can start the exam on time.

4

Comprehensive Exam

Plan for about 45–60 minutes. We measure vision, refraction, eye teaming and focusing, and examine the front and back of the eye. We explain everything as we go.

5

Recommendations & Next Steps

We'll review what we found, recommend glasses, contacts, or follow-up as appropriate, and give you a chance to ask anything else before you leave.

Insurance

We Accept Most Major Plans

We participate with most major vision insurance plans and many medical insurance plans. Common ones we work with include, but aren't limited to, vision plans like VSP, EyeMed, Davis Vision, and Spectera, and medical plans like Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, and UnitedHealthcare. See our full insurance page for details.

Plans change frequently, so the best thing to do is share your insurance details when you book and we'll verify your specific benefits before your visit. If you don't see your plan, ask. We may still be in-network or have self-pay options that work for you.

Wondering how often your child needs an exam? See how often kids should have eye exams, and why a school vision screening isn't the same as a comprehensive exam.

Payment

Payment Options

We accept all major credit and debit cards, HSA and FSA cards, cash, and CareCredit financing for larger purchases like multiple pairs of glasses or specialty contact lenses. Self-pay patients receive transparent pricing. We'll always tell you the cost before any service.
